What Causes Hidden Pimples?
Blind zits occur when your skin’s pores (tiny holes on your skin)
clog. Experts call them hair follicles. Factors that block them include dead
skin cells, hair, bacteria, and sebum (the oil that your skin produces to
maintain the skin’s moisture).
When the body produces excess sebum or if you don’t maintain
proper skin hygiene, the oil accumulates under your skin and forms pus. It gets
stuck and fails to get to the skin’s surface. As a result, it stays in the body
and forms a pimple causing pain and inflammation. However, one cannot always
blame poor skin hygiene for such pimples. Some other factors include the
following.
- Family History: In some cases, pimples are the
result of genetics. If your parents have had acne and blind pimples in the
past, you may also develop them at some point.
- Pregnancy: Women are more prone to pimples
during pregnancy or menstruation.
- Sweat: Activities that cause excessive
sweating, particularly with tight clothes, helmets, or hats can worsen
acne.
- Stress Levels: Stress causes the cortisol (stress
hormone) levels to increase and produce more sebum, resulting in
breakouts. Anxiety and stress cause cortisol levels to rise and make more
sebum, causing breakouts.
- Hormonal
Changes: Adolescents are more susceptible to acne breakouts due to
changes in their hormonal levels.
- Medications and Skin Care Products: Medications like corticosteroids or
in some cases, heavy lotions and creams can clog pores and result in zits.
Suffering from blind pimples is normal. Almost everyone gets them
